All of us have, so far, heard of alumni authors who have won awards for their books. Now, it is time for the professors to statr winning too. Prof M S Sriram's collection of short stories has won the Kannada Sahitya Academy Award.
The Award was announced on March 29th, 2016, along with the other awards for the books published in the year 2013. The ceremony is to be held in Dharwad on April 29th, 2016.
Prof M S Sriram is a visiting faculty in the Centre for Public Policy. His book 'Salman Khanana Difficultiesu' is a collection of six short stories, including the title story. The other stories are 'Suddi, Idu Suddi', 'Ásthitva', 'Munduvareyuvudu', Óndu Indian English Kathe', and 'Obba Vichitra Mitra, Avanadondu Patra'.
The stories explore the complex concersn of the real world in a simple language, with a touch of mischievous humour.
The book has been commemded by contemporary writer Abdul Rahman, thus, "...the stories must be savoured for their wry humour.... the author must be commended for carrying readers along untill the very last line of the last story".
The Kannada Sahitya Academy Award is an annual award confered by the Academy, to writers of outstanding books of literary merit (under various catagorical genres) written in Kannada.
